Type: Hybrid (sativa dominant)
Genetics: Thai x Mexican x Afghani
Trainwreck is a highly sativa dominant hybrid (90/10). The strain first appeared on the scene in the 1980s and has become one of the more famous names in cannabis culture. I honestly have not seen this strain around in a while. However over the holiday break, I was up in the Tahoe region of California and I ran into someone who actually had the original strain from the 1980s. He told me he had personally kept this particular strain going for over 30 years now!
Looks and Smell
Trainwreck spawns distinctive thin leaves and dense buds with lots of resin. The buds themselves are light green with a good amount of orange hairs, and are covered in crystals. The smell is unmistakably pungent and extremely piney. Smell again closely and you will get undertones of lemon and pepper as well.
Being a highly dominant sativa hybrid, this is an ideal daytime smoke. The effects are clearheaded and focused with a euphoric high. The indica side of the plant does its job as well, covering the body in a nice pain-numbing buzz. THC content averages about 18%, but coming across buds that are 20% and even higher is not unheard of. Trainwreck is recommended in the treatment of depression, anxiety, stress, muscle tension, and muscle aches.
Trainwreck was one of the first named strains I came across in my high school days. Before that, cannabis was either simply "green bud" or "dirt weed." If you can get your hands on this famous strain, I would highly recommend giving it a try. The effects may be cerebral, but there is just enough indica in there to offer a decent amount of pain relief as well.
